Burr

Hi my furry peeps, it's Rocky! The Warden said to ask you a question, so here goes:

"How do you know when it's really cold out?"

Answer: When the pet door has iced over ... on the inside! MOL. Yes, this is what the pet door looked like this morning from inside. This happens every winter when it's really cold (below zero). The pet door has panels on the inside and outside, but it's still drafty. We don't use the door even in summer because we don't get free access to the outdoors since the Warden is a worrywart. I don't mind but Mickey, oh boy does he fuss in the summer. In the winter, he doesn't step paw outside.

This is where we all spend the winter -- in front of the wall heater. The Warden says it's an eyesore but we kitties just love how warm it is there. I hog the soft little cat blankie that the Warden puts down in front of it.

Usually it's just my brofur Mickey and I relaxicatting in front of the heater, but sometimes we allow that spoiled girl kitty Annabelle to get warm, too.

The Warden titled my post Burr because she had a good laugh -- at herself -- the other day. People were using it to mean "cold" and she said to them, "Don't you mean brrrr, as in brrrr, it's cold out." But then she Googled it. Lo and behold, burr is now listed in the slang dictionaries to mean the same thing as brrrr!!

So whether you write burr or brrrr, we agree. It's too cold for kitties to be outdoors! Please stay warm.

Love and kitty licks,
Rocky

  2. Yikes! That's when you know it's truly cold outside when that cat door freezes over. I love heating vents - they're the BEST......I have a blankie by one and bed in front of the other. HEAVENLY!

  6. My human is an editor and she still has issues about burr meaning cold - new words and word usages have to be around for a long time before she lets them in! That said, she has allowed "gonna" in very casual writing (like the rock mags she used to edit) for nearly three decades.

  7. Brrrr, oh, yes, that is cold! Jan will use that as an excuse to not let us have a pet door. :)

  9. I've encountered to many burrs to have it mean cold!! Even though I know Burrrrrr! is used to mean I'm cold. Never used it to nean Cold in general. Growing up, the wind quit blowing in when I had a good layer of ice covering the inside of my window! Parents thought it was hilarious. They're nuts! (really, not the edible kind either!).

  12. So the dictionary now says that burr now means brrr? MOUSES!

It must have been super cold outside for that freezin' over thing to happen. Make sure you all stay warm and toasty inside. I highly recommend the top of the fridge.

  16. It does look like it's cold there. Here in southern Alberta, we are just climbing out of a cold spell: the temperature was about -30 (centigrade) for about a week, and with more snow than we've had for a few years combined. But in a few days, so the predictions run, it will be above freezing. That's life here.

I noticed your donate button for Belle. Have you contacted the Cat Blogosphere site and asked if they would mention Belle? It would reach many people that way.
